French Lick, Indiana

Founded in 1811, French Lick was originally a French Trading Post. The city has an interesting history and diverse. The name of the French Lick area was in town because of the source of sulfur in The feathers are used for a long time for their medicinal values.

During one of the most interesting periods in gangster era of the 20th century, was known as a block of Chicago gangster John Dillinger found. He and his gang would board aRail, or reduce and hide from Chicago, while enjoying the amenities of the area. With the opening of casinos were people like Joe Louis, Irving Berlin and Al Capone, and many other frequent visitors.

Pluto Water, a known laxative was here early in the 20th Century in the bottle. During this period there was a bottling plant for 7 UP.

Franklin D. Roosevelt announced his intention to run for president of the Governor to the National Convention held inFrench Lick Springs.

As travel restrictions imposed in the 2nd World War, held the Chicago White Sox spring training. Travel was restricted to an area east of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio River. All baseball teams of that time the United States located in the eastern part of the Lick only a few hundred miles south of Chicago French, was thus an ideal location.

The most famous inhabitants of the modern era was Larry Bird,grew up and attended Spring Valley High School here in French Lick, in his college years at Indiana State in Terre Haute, and his professional career with the Boston Celtics Steller!
